Dr. Jogesh Babu recognized at the International Conf. in Statistics and Probability
Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis initiated the discipline of Statistics in India. He made fundamental and lasting contributions to its development and application. He founded the Indian Statistical Institute with the aim of teaching and research in Statistics and allied subjects. The conference on Statistics and Probability was held at the Kolkata campus of the Institute, on January 2-4, 2018. A post-conference workshop on Astrostatistics was also organized on January 5, 2018.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science has announced its list of fellows for 2017 "in recognition of their contributions to science and technology, scientific leadership and extraordinary achievements across disciplines." Pat Buchanan receives the C. I. Noll Award for Excellence in Teaching
The C. I. Noll Award is presented annually to an outstanding faculty member within the Eberly College of Science. Nominations are accepted from alumni, faculty, and all students. Faculty may also nominate themselves or another faculty member. The award is designed to recognize a faculty member who has had a positive impact on students. One award will be given to a tenure-track faculty member and one award will be given to an instructional teaching faculty member or lecturer.

2017 Bioinformatics and Genomics Retreat
The 2017 Bioinformatics and Genomics retreat will be held on September 22nd and 23rd. The one and a half day retreat will feature Dr. Zhiping Weng from University of Massachusetts Medical School as the keynote speaker. There will also be a number of faculty and student talks as well as a workshop session on the September 23rd. The retreat is open to everyone and attendance is free, but everyone must register before September 15th.

The Department of Statistics at Penn State will hold a one-day conference on Friday, May 12, 2017 to honor Professor Donald B. Rubin, the 2017 C. R. and Bhargavi Rao Prize Recipient, Professor Paul R. Rosenbaum, the 2017 C. G. Khatri Lecturer, and Professor Satish Iyengar, the 2017 P. R. Krishnaiah Lecturer.
