One of the biggest problems with online learning is student retention.  The drop-out rate for an online student is 10 – 20 percent higher than that of a face-to-face class.  Why is that?  The answer to that question has been heavily researched over the past several years.  I will present some reasons as to why students are leaving their online classes as well as strategies for increasing our student retention rate, in particular the online class STAT 200 for this presentation.  This presentation will include many of the teaching techniques and strategies I have successfully implemented over the past nine years as on online instructor and 16+ years over all as an instructor.
