Dr. Jogesh Babu recognized at the International Conf. in Statistics and Probability

Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis initiated the discipline of Statistics in India. He made fundamental and lasting contributions to its development and application. He founded the Indian Statistical Institute with the aim of teaching and research in Statistics and allied subjects. The conference on Statistics and Probability was held at the Kolkata campus of the Institute, on January 2-4, 2018. A post-conference workshop on Astrostatistics was also organized on January 5, 2018.

Dr. Jogesh BabuDr. Jogesh Babu was invited to give the opening remarks at the Indian Statistical Institute conference this month, celebrating the 125th Anniversary of its founder P.C. Mahalanobis.  


Dr. Babu was also honored at the conference and received a customary shawl. Jogesh had used the famous Mahalanobis distance in connection with multi-epoch astronomical data. The current president of the Institute Professor Helen MacGillivray gave a talk on Mahalanobis.
